Over 100 years of history in Quincy and Pembroke

The Uljas Koitto ("Gallant Dawn") Temperance Society was founded in Quincy Massachusetts in 1892 to discourage the use of alcohol and illicit drugs and inform the public about Finnish Culture.

In 1926, UKTS members, on a tip from a Pembroke local, staked a plot in Pembroke Massachusetts at the site of a former hunting lodge as a place for a summer camp.  Of course, they also set out to build a wood-fired sauna.

Since 1926 many generations of Finnish families have made their way down to the UKTS Camp. They all contributed to the welfare and well being of the society. Their hard work and dedication over the years made possible what is here today. Their echoes are still here across the simple gravel parking lot, into the loft pines, the outdoor benches by the porch, the woodpile, and in the sauna.

In recent years, UKTS has become a culturally diverse organization of individuals and families with a love for sauna and an interest in healthy living.
